WEEK 23 - AFTER WINTER BREAK

February 22, 2015

I hope everyone had a FANTASTIC BREAK!

This week the plan is:

Math 9 - We will be going more in depth about linear equations and inequalities.

Math Review Skills:
http://ca.ixl.com/math/grade-9

So far we have done:  Numbers, Operations, Coordinate graphs, Polynomials, Monomials, Solve Equations, Systems of Linear Equations, Linear functions, Exponents, Relations and Functions,  some of Percents, Single Variable Inequalities and Properties,

More specifically we will be covering Outcomes P9.2 and P9.3 in the Saskatchewan curriculum for grade 9 math.

Outcome: P9.2
Model and solve situational questions using linear equations of the form:
  • ax = b
  • x/a = b, a ≠ 0
  • ax + b = c
  • x/a + b = c, a ≠ 0
  • ax = b + cx
  • a(x + b) = c
  • ax + b = cx + d
  • a(bx + c) = d(ex + f)
  • a/x = b, x ≠ 0
where a, b, c, d, e, and f are rational numbers.

  • solving inequalities
  • verifying
  • comparing
  • graphing.

Week 22 - February 9-13

Math 9
This week we will be reviewing linear functions because there was some difficulty last week.

On Monday, we will review Task #1 and then play some computer games to help re-emphasize our learning.  On Tuesday, I have a sub who will be reviewing Task #2-4 and a handout, which will be due next class.  On Wednesday, we will be having a practice test which students will have a chance to ask questions.  On Thursday, we will be having a, hopefully, final test on linear equations (this term).  On Friday, we will re-emphasize our math knowledge through reviewing our test and card games.

Science 8
This week we will be researching more about fluids.  Students will be performing experiments in class on Thursday and completing a hand in about the Scientific method.

Science 7
This week we will be completing notes on the Heat and Temperature unit.

Week 21 - REPORT CARDS & Start of Quarter 3

February 2, 2015

During the last couple weeks, I have had a lot of work to do!

I had to create over 120 exams, mark those exams and leave comments about those exams.

Many students did really well during exam week, while some are struggling.

Math 9

Some students will be working on expanding their knowledge on exponents, square roots, polynomials, linear relations and rational numbers.

Other students will work on a review of certain areas to ensure they meet grade 9 outcomes and so they can make an accurate decision on which math stream they should follow next year.

Webquest - Linear Equations

Science 8

We will be learning about Matter and Energy for this quarter!  After February break, we will begin science projects so start brainstorming about what you want to research!

Science 7

We will be learning about Heat and Temperature for this quarter!  After February break, we will begin science projects so start brainstorming about what you want to research!
